Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and plays an important role in everything from your skin, hair and nails to your joints and connective tissues. But as we get older, our bodies naturally produce less of it — which is one of the reasons collagen supplementation has become so popular.

At BrewLaLa, though, we wanted collagen to do more than support healthy-looking skin.

We chose hydrolysed collagen peptides because they've already been broken down into smaller peptides, making them easy for the body to digest and absorb. Once absorbed, these peptides provide amino acids the body can use to support its own collagen-containing tissues.

Research has shown that collagen peptide supplementation may help improve skin hydration and elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, while other studies have investigated its role in supporting joint health and mobility.

But there's another reason protein is such an important part of BrewLaLa.

Protein helps you feel fuller for longer

One of the biggest benefits of adding protein to your morning routine is satiety — that feeling of being comfortably satisfied after you've eaten.

Higher-protein diets have consistently been associated with greater feelings of fullness and reduced hunger, which can make it easier to manage overall food intake.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that increasing dietary protein resulted in sustained reductions in appetite and spontaneous calorie intake, with participants also experiencing significant weight loss.

Protein also requires more energy for the body to digest and metabolise than carbohydrates or fat — something known as the thermic effect of food. This is one of the ways a higher-protein diet can support energy expenditure and weight-management goals.

Helping protect the muscle you've worked hard for

When you're losing weight, the goal isn't simply to see the number on the scales go down. Ideally, you want to lose body fat while maintaining as much lean muscle as possible.

That's another reason getting enough protein matters.

A review published in the Journal of Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome highlighted the important role higher protein intake can play in preserving lean body mass during weight loss. Maintaining muscle is particularly important because lean mass contributes to your body's overall energy expenditure.

Research published in Nutrition & Metabolism has also explored how higher-protein diets may support weight management through several different mechanisms, including increased satiety hormones, reduced levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin and increased thermogenesis.

It's why protein is at the heart of BrewLaLa.

Each serve delivers 15g of protein, primarily from hydrolysed collagen peptides, making something you may already do every morning — have a coffee — an easy opportunity to add more protein to your day.

And because collagen naturally lacks the essential amino acid L-Tryptophan, we've added it separately to BrewLaLa to create a more balanced amino-acid profile.

No extra shake. No extra meal to think about.

Just your morning coffee, working a little harder for you.

L-Tryptophan

L-Tryptophan is one of the nine essential amino acids — nutrients the body cannot produce on its own and therefore needs to obtain through the diet.

So why did we add it to BrewLaLa?

Making our protein work harder

BrewLaLa contains 15g of protein per serve, primarily from hydrolysed collagen peptides. Collagen is naturally rich in amino acids, but there's one essential amino acid it doesn't contain: tryptophan.

That's why we've added L-Tryptophan to our formula.

By adding the missing essential amino acid, we've created a more complete amino-acid profile than collagen alone — an important consideration when you're choosing protein to help support your daily protein intake, maintain lean muscle and protect the progress you've worked so hard to achieve.

For women who've undergone weight-loss surgery, are actively losing weight, or simply find it difficult to meet their daily protein needs, we wanted every serve of BrewLaLa to offer more than standard collagen protein alone.

More than just an amino acid

L-Tryptophan also has another fascinating role in the body.

It's a natural precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood, appetite and sleep. Serotonin can then be used by the body to produce melatonin, which plays an important role in regulating the sleep-wake cycle.

Research into tryptophan has explored its relationship with serotonin production, mood, appetite and sleep, although individual responses and the effects of supplementation can vary.

For BrewLaLa, L-Tryptophan isn't about making big promises. It's there first and foremost because it complements our collagen protein — while bringing its own unique nutritional role to the formula.

It's another example of why we haven't simply put collagen in coffee.

We've thought about how the ingredients work together to create a high-protein coffee designed to support your body, your goals and the progress you've worked hard to achieve.

Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs)

MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides — a type of fat most commonly derived from coconut oil.

What makes MCTs interesting is the way your body handles them. Because of their shorter chain length, they're digested, absorbed and metabolised differently from longer-chain fats, providing a readily available source of energy.

And that's exactly why we added MCT powder to BrewLaLa.

A little extra support for your metabolism

MCTs have been widely studied for their potential role in energy expenditure, fat metabolism and weight management.

They're rapidly transported to the liver, where they can be used as an energy source and converted into ketones. Ketones provide an alternative source of fuel for the body and brain — one of the reasons MCTs have become particularly popular with people following lower-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets.

But you certainly don't need to be following a keto diet to enjoy them.

Research suggests that replacing some longer-chain dietary fats with MCTs may help increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation, and some studies have also found benefits for satiety and body composition.

In other words, they're another small way we've designed your morning coffee to work a little harder for you.

Why do we use a powder instead of MCT oil?

If you've ever tried pouring MCT oil into coffee, you'll probably understand this decision!

We use micro-encapsulated MCT powder, which gives us the benefits of MCTs in a form that blends beautifully into your coffee — without an oily layer floating on top.

Micro-encapsulation surrounds the MCT oil with a protective coating, helping improve its stability and allowing it to disperse more easily into your drink.

The result is a smooth, creamy coffee with 3g of MCT powder in every serve — no measuring, pouring or oily coffee required.

What does the research say?

MCTs have been studied extensively for their potential role in metabolism and weight management.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared MCT oil with olive oil as part of a weight-loss program. Participants consuming MCT oil experienced greater reductions in body weight and fat mass than those consuming olive oil, suggesting that replacing longer-chain fats with MCTs may provide a modest advantage during weight loss.

Research published in The Journal of Nutrition has also investigated the effects of MCT consumption on energy expenditure and fat storage, finding that medium-chain fats may increase energy expenditure and result in less fat accumulation compared with longer-chain fats.

A systematic review and meta-analysis published in Clinical Nutrition similarly examined controlled trials involving MCTs and body composition. The researchers found that replacing longer-chain triglycerides with MCTs was associated with modest reductions in body weight, waist circumference and body fat.

MCTs aren't a shortcut to weight loss — and we don't pretend they are.

They're simply one of the carefully chosen functional ingredients we've added to BrewLaLa to support energy and metabolism as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Together with our 15g of protein, L-Tryptophan and Green Coffee Bean Extract, it's another reason BrewLaLa is much more than just coffee with protein added.

It's coffee designed to work harder for you.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Green Coffee Bean Extract is made from coffee beans before they are roasted, allowing them to retain higher levels of naturally occurring chlorogenic acids (CGAs) — powerful plant compounds studied for their antioxidant and metabolic properties.

BrewLaLa uses a Green Coffee Bean Extract standardised to 50% chlorogenic acids, selected specifically to complement our high-protein formula and support women working towards their weight-management goals.

Supporting metabolism and weight management

Chlorogenic acids have been studied for their potential role in glucose and fat metabolism, including the way the body processes and uses carbohydrates and fats. Research suggests that Green Coffee Bean Extract may help support healthy body weight and metabolic health when used alongside a balanced diet and active lifestyle.

This makes it a natural fit for BrewLaLa: rather than simply adding protein to your morning coffee, we've combined 15g of complete protein with functional ingredients chosen to support satiety, metabolism and sustained energy.

Green Coffee Bean Extract works alongside MCT powder and protein to create a coffee designed to do more than give you your morning caffeine hit.

What does the research say?

Green Coffee Bean Extract and its primary active compounds, chlorogenic acids, have been investigated in a number of clinical trials for their potential effects on weight management and metabolic health.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials found that supplementation with Green Coffee Extract was associated with improvements in measures of obesity, particularly BMI, with some subgroups also experiencing reductions in body weight.

A more recent systematic review and meta-analysis examining chlorogenic acid from green coffee found a modest reduction in body weight among participants taking Green Coffee Bean Extract compared with control groups.

Research has also investigated Green Coffee Bean Extract's effects on broader metabolic markers, with a meta-analysis of clinical trials reporting improvements in measures including fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, total cholesterol, body weight and BMI.

While Green Coffee Bean Extract isn't a magic weight-loss ingredient, the research around chlorogenic acids makes it an exciting functional addition to BrewLaLa — helping turn something you already do every morning into something that works a little harder for you.
